I am fortunate to work for a company that will sometimes allow employees to float their holidays.  Instead of having the Fourth of July off of work, I took off on the sixth.  That meant that Ben and I got to enjoy a rare day off together.  We had a lazy morning simply enjoying being together, and then we went for a hike in the afternoon.  We were so excited to get out in the woods together.  We both love to hike, but it’s just not as much fun if we can’t go together.

Our goal was to hike to Mystic Lake.  Unfortunately, we didn’t know where we were going, and the trails are not well marked.  We started off on the trail that was marked for the lake, but none of the intersections with other trails were marked.  We didn’t manage to find the lake, but we did have a marvelous afternoon in the woods.  We walked for about eight miles and simply enjoyed each other’s company.  We even found a cool rock and stumbled upon an incredible view of the reservoir.  I wouldn’t change a thing.

When we got back to town that evening, we had dinner and then spontaneously decided that we were up for another walk.  We went to our favorite park and walked along the trail that goes around the ponds.  We got to see a mama duck with her babies, and we enjoyed a spectacular sunset.  It was the perfect ending to a wonderful day.  I’m so grateful that we were able to spend it together.

It really was an incredible sunset. I couldn’t stop staring at it, even though my eyes didn’t appreciate looking into the sun.
